Depardieu in JS BACH biopic

The life of Johan Sebastian Bach, simply entitled BACH, is being prepared for the big screen, and will go into production in 2017. The story of Bach, tagged ‘Orphan, Convict, Rebel, Genius’, will be brought to life by director Eric Styles (That Good Night, Legendary) and the production is attracting a host of prominent actors. Already attached are Gérard Depardieu, Max Von Sydow, Axel Milberg and Marianne Sagebrecht. The Production team is in discussions with high profile actors and the lead role of Bach is still to be confirmed. BACH is also backed by an outstanding Academy Award winning crew.

The story of BACH, the film, tracks its path back to 17th Century Germany to arguably the world’s greatest and most controversial composer, Johann Sebastian Bach. We follow his path to greatness as the maverick beer-swilling genius battles the city council of Leipzig. He challenges convention, is stalked by death with the loss of his kin, and associates with some of the most colorful and exotic characters of his time, including Christiane Mariane Von Ziegler, Europe’s first radical feminist.

BACH is written by Jeffrey Freedman and is produced by Freedman and SJ Evans of Dark Art Films Ltd and has a budget of USD 21 mil. The film’s intended release is late 2017

Depardieu said: “I believe in this production which will please millions of fans. Jeffrey Freedman’s film is an important one and I have long been an admirer of Bach.”

The award winning crew includes:
DOP: 3 time Academy Award winner Vittorio Storaro (The Last Emperor, Apocalypse Now, Dick Tracy, Last Tango in Paris)
Editor: Tariq Anwar (American Beauty, The Kings Speech, Law Abiding Citizen, Revolutionary Road)
Sound: 4 time Academy Award winner Mark Berger (The Godfather II, Amadeus, Apocalypse Now, Capote)
Composer: Academy Award winner Gabriel Yared (The English Patient, Talented Mr Ripley, The Lives of Others, Cold Mountain)
Other award winning talent attached includes Davide De Stefano (Production Designer), Sir John Eliot Gardiner (Music Supervisor), Joel Harlow (Make Up) and Adruitha Lee (Hair)
