13 Films has sold German and all German speaking rights in all media to Constantin Film for actioner EXTORTION starring Frank Grillo (CAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER SOLDIER, THE PURGE: ANARCHY) and Ving Rhames (MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE franchise, PULP FICTION), it was announced today by Tannaz Anisi, President of 13 Films.

13 Films is handling worldwide rights and is actively selling the title at the ongoing European Film Market in Berlin.

The film, set to start shooting in Puerto Rico this month, is written and will be directed by newcomer Phil Volken, who produces with Alina Shraybman.

Grillo and Rhames star alongside Jake McLaughlin (SAVAGES, WARRIOR), Oscar nominee Barkhad Abdi (CAPTAIN PHILLIPS) and Nicky Whalen (HALL PASS, LEFT BEHIND).

A boat joyride leaves a doctor (Grillo), his wife (Whalen) and their 5 year old son stranded on an abandoned island during their vacation in the Bahamas.  They are discovered by two local fishermen who agree to help them, but demand one million dollars in return for saving their lives in this tense, action-filled adventure.

“Constantin is one of the leading independent distributors in Germany and as such, is the perfect partner to release EXTORTION to German audiences. I look forward to collaborating with them on what promises to be a very entertaining and action-packed film as production starts this month,” said Anisi.

Additional sales have been completed in Latin America, the Middle East, Turkey, former Yugoslavia, South Africa, Vietnam and Pan Asia Pay TV.

13 Films’ slate at Berlin includes the newly announced action/horror film UNTÖT set to star Hayden Christensen for producer Greg O’Connor (WARRIOR), CHRONICALLY METROPOLITAN to star Shiloh Fernandez (EVIL DEAD), Chris Noth, Mary-Louise Parker and Ashley Benson (“Pretty Little Liars”), supernatural thriller VOICE FROM THE STONE starring Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones,” upcoming TERMINATOR GENISYS) and Marton Csokas (THE EQUALIZER), which is currently in post-production, crime thriller MANHATTAN NOCTURNE starring Oscar winner Adrien Brody, Yvonne Strahovski and Campbell Scott which is shooting and LOITERING WITH INTENT starring Sam Rockwell and Marisa Tomei, currently in limited theatrical release.
