WATCH TRAILER  // PRESS KIT

H. is a mysterious, modern interpretation of a classic tragedy in which two women, each named Helen, live mirrored lives in the town of Troy, NY. The first Helen (Robin Bartlett, Inside Lleweyn Davis,Shutter Island, American Horror Story Coven) is in her 60s, lives with her husband, and takes care of an eerily lifelike baby doll called a “Reborn Doll,” which she cares for as though it were alive. The second Helen (Rebecca Dayan, Celeste & Jesse Forever, A Short History of Decay) is in her 30s, has a successful art career and is four months pregnant. One night, something unexplainable falls out of the sky and explodes over the town. In the aftermath of this event, bizarre and unexplainable things begin to happen. As people in the town go missing en masse and unnatural cloud formations begin appearing in the sky, the two women find themselves and their lives spinning out of control.

Directors Rania Attieh and Daniel Garcia, winners of the 2015 Independent Spirit "Someone to Watch" award for H., create a tension-soaked atmosphere using an evocative score that includes music by Kazu Makino of Blonde Redhead and imagery that highlights the film’s elegant mythological and cinematic classicism. Many of the film’s element’s, from the meteor explosion to the floating head of a large Greek statue down the Hudson to the scenes of Reborn Doll collectors, are inspired by real events, and when crafted together they form an intricate and moving narrative tapestry that flirts with the genre conventions of horror and science fiction in a haunting, moody way. Ultimately, H. is a visual feast about change; but more importantly about being changed by forces beyond anyone’s control.

H. has won production support and mentorship from the Venice Biennale College Cinema program and was screened at the Venice Film Festival 2014. H. was an official selection at Sundance Film Festival (NEXT) 2015.
