European Film Factory Symposium

The European Film Factory is celebrating its first year of existence with a symposium on film education from July 26 to 28, 2021 in Cluj-Napoca (Romania) in partnership with the EducaTIFF section of the Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF).

This European meeting will be divided in two parts, and it will be an opportunity to highlight the importance of film education in the school and extra-curricular life of young Europeans. On July 26, the meeting will be introduced by H.E. Ms. Laurence Auer, Ambassador of France in Romania, and the President of the festival, Mr. Tudor Giurgiu.

• The morning will focus on the current situation of film and media education in Romania and the willingness of professional actors to advocate the importance of film education in the school curriculum.
• The afternoon discussion will adress this issue on the European level with a panel on the challenges of film education in Europe.

The European Film Factory is inviting the following participants to address this issue: Anna Kasimati, Head of Creative Europe MEDIA Desk Greece / Head of Research and Programs Office, Greek Film Centre (Greece); Leopold Grün, Director, Vision Kino (Germany); Ana Đordić, Program selector at Four River Film Festival and Film educator at Film EDUcation, Croatian Film Association (Croatia); Pamela Giorgi, main researcher, INDiRE (Istituto Nazionale di Documentazione, Innovazione e Ricerca Educativa - Italy) ; Marion Thevenot, Head of French cinema unit, Institut français (European Film Factory) (France), EFF consortium; Anamaria Ghiban, teacher, European Film Factory Focus Group (Romania).

The following day, Tuesday 27 July, there will be a screening of the film Brendan and the Secret of Kells (from the European Film Factory catalogue) followed by an online Q&A with film director Tomm Moore. The afternoon will be devoted to a film education workshop for teachers from the European Film Factory focus group - 12 teachers from 8 European countries invited to the festival - and local teachers.

The EFF Symposium, one of the highlights of the project, is organised by the Institut français with the two consortium partners, ARTE Education and European Schoolnet.

Supported by the MEDIA strand of Creative Europe, European Film Factory is an innovative scheme to promote film education in Europe. 

European Film Factory is led by the Institut français, which has joined forces with two partners at the forefront of digital innovation in schools: ARTE Education, a subsidiary of ARTE, the European cultural television channel, and European Schoolnet, a non-profit organisation that brings together 34 Ministries of Education in Europe.

The European Film Factory programme gives students aged 11 to 18 and teachers from all Member States of the Creative Europe programme a free and secured access to an online catalogue of films from Europe's film heritage.

The European Film Factory platform (www.europeanfilmfactory.eu) is available on all devices (computers, tablets, smartphones). Designed as a real tool for film education, it is available in 8 languages and offers innovative educational tools based on films: mind maps and possibility to annotate scenes or create extracts.

European Film Factory célèbre sa première année d’existence à travers un symposium sur l’éducation au cinéma du 26 au 28 juillet 2021 à Cluj-Napoca (Roumanie) en partenariat avec la section EducaTIFF du Festival international du Film de Transylvanie (TIFF).

Cette rencontre européenne, divisée en deux temps, sera l’occasion de souligner l’importance de l’éducation au cinéma dans le parcours scolaire et extra-scolaire des jeunes du continent. Le 26 juillet, la journée sera introduite par Laurence Auer, Ambassadrice de France en Roumanie, et le Président du festival Tudor Giurgiu.

• La matinée sera centrée sur la situation roumaine et la volonté des acteurs professionnels  de promouvoir l'éducation au cinéma dans le cursus scolaire auprès du ministère de l'Éducation et des institutions locales.

•  L’après-midi permettra l’ouverture de la discussion au niveau européen avec un panel  sur les enjeux de l'éducation au cinema en Europe.

Le lendemain, mardi 27 juillet, aura lieu une projection du film Brendan et le secret de Kells (film du catalogue European Film Factory) suivie d’un échange avec le réalisateur, Tomm Moore. L’après-midi sera consacré à un atelier de formation à l’éducation au cinéma pour les professeurs du groupe de travail European Film Factory – 12 professeurs de 8 pays européens invités au festival – et des professeurs locaux.

Le Symposium EFF, un des temps forts du projet, est organisé avec les deux partenaires du consortium, ARTE Education et European Schoolnet.

Soutenu par le sous-programme MEDIA d’Europe Créative, European Film Factory est un dispositif de promotion de l’éducation au cinéma en Europe.  

European Film Factory est piloté par l’Institut français qui s’est entouré de deux partenaires en pointe sur les sujets d’innovation numérique dans les écoles : ARTE Education, filiale d’ARTE, chaîne de télévision culturelle européenne à l’origine du service numérique éducatif Educ’ARTE, et European Schoolnet, organisme à but non lucratif qui regroupe trente-quatre ministères de l’Éducation en Europe.

 Le programme European Film Factory permet à des élèves de 11 à 18 ans et à des professeurs de tous les États membres du programme Europe Créative d’accéder gratuitement à un catalogue de dix films du patrimoine cinématographique européen en ligne sélectionné par un jury européen de professionnels de l’industrie du cinéma et de l’éducation.

La plateforme European Film Factory (www.europeanfilmfactory.eu) est accessible sur tous les supports (ordinateurs, tablettes, smartphones). Pensée comme un véritable outil de travail d’éducation au cinéma, elle se décline en 8 langues et propose des outils pédagogiques innovants autour des films : cartes mentales, annotations ou encore découpe d’extraits de scènes spécifiques.
