Intercom competition awards When You Say 4000 goodbyes

41th INTERCOM COMPETITION WINNERS ANNOUNCED

INTERCOM, the International Communications Film & Video Competition, has announced the winners of its 2005 competition.

The Gold Hugo, INTERCOM’s top prize, has been awarded to When You Say Four Thousand Goodbyes, directed by Jim Fahy. The documentary tells the remarkable story of Dr. Mike Meegan, who has spent 25 years working to better life in African villages. Aside from being the story of a remarkable man, the film sheds light on the continent’s ongoing battles with poverty, injustice and unnecessary death.

For 41 years, INTERCOM has honored the best in Corporate Sponsored and Industrial Films. On October 9, 2005 as part of the Chicago International Film Festival, clips from winning productions of this year’s INTERCOM competition, including When You Say Four Thousand Goodbyes will screen as part of a four-hour event. The screening will include the documentary The Phantom of the Operator by Caroline Martel, which is composed entirely of footage from over 100 industrial and reveals the story of female telephone operators through the development of global communication. The film provides a portrait of humanity in the ever-changing business world and shows the importance that the productions celebrated by INTERCOM have in our society.
