The Oscar Foreign Language Contenders at Palm Springs

Beyond
the Gala Screenings, Palm Springs is closely observed by the film
community for its screenings of Oscar contenders in the Foreign-Language
category. With 46 (down by one from lasts year's record-breaking
47) films submitted to the Academy, the festival is presenting 33
during its 10-day event. Among them, Ecuador's first time entry
to the Oscars - Dreams from the Center, the favored film
to win - Ang Lee's Crouching Tigger, Hidden Dragon, a past
Oscar winner - Switzerland's Xavier Koller (Journey of Hope,
1990
) and Hong Kong's strong contender - In the Mood for
Lov
e, which could possibly bring home the first Oscar for Hong
Kong.
