James W. Hawk’s film exhibits at Rome, Italy Art Exhibition

James W. Hawk has been invited to have one of his short films be an exhibit at the Ospizio Giovani Artisti Art Exhibition in Rome, Italy. The exhibition will take place from December 20, 2018 and will run until January 3, 2019. The exhibition is by appointment only. Ospizio Giovani Artisti is located at via Cernaia 15, 00185 Rome, Italy across the street from the Ministry of Finance and the Economy.

The exhibition is: La Collezione Invernale – Inaugurazione (in English, THE WINTER COLLECTION)

On the occasion of the winter solstice, the Ospizio Giovani Artisti presents a group exhibition dedicated to the cold season, with works by five international artists, all coming from the OGA collection.

Artists: Georgina Campbell, Werther Germondari, James W.  Hawk, Franco Mapelli, and Alcaeus Spyrou.

James W. Hawk (Cheshire, Connecticut USA) studied architecture and graduated a mechanical engineer in Ohio. As of late he has become an accomplished independent filmmaker, published author of short stories (mostly science fiction) and a photographic artist. His pursuit of excellence and perfection in the visual arts and written word are unmatched.

James W. Hawk’s exhibit at La Collezione Invernale – Inaugurazione is an experimental time-lapse film titled Winter Shadows on New Snow and Wind in the Old Oak Tree that takes a 12 hour day and compresses it to 3 minutes. The film uses color, music and special effects to enhance the viewing experience. It  is an ballet of shadows on new fallen snow and in an old oak tree. The dynamic nature of the sky during this time added nicely to the overall affect.

The other artists are:

Georgina Campbell (Gosford, Australia) lives and works in Melbourne and London. She is a photographic artist with an interest in exploring the photograph as a sculptural object,

Werther Germondari (Rome, Italy), Studied Cinematography at Centro sperimentale di cinematografia and studied Art at Università di Bologna.  He is an experimental filmmaker and a neo-conceptual and situational artist, characterized by a taste for the ironic and surreal.

Franco Mapelli (Milano, Italy) graduated in architecture in Rome, before devoting himself to photography.

Alcaeus Spyrou (Elbasan, Albania) lives and studies in The Hague, Netherlands. He is a lens-captured visual artist, researching the cinematic image and the psyche of contemporary migration.

OSPIZIO GIOVANI ARTISTI·

Organized in 2013, the space of the OGA organizes many group exhibitions every year, with contemporary and modern art works that come exclusively from the Collection of the OGA itself. These works are usually donated by the artists themselves in order to create thematic exhibitions that are a continuous reflection on the role of art involvement in today's society.

It's very important to say that the OGA was organized with the ironic intent to exhibit only works made by artists over 35 years of age, in provocative opposition to festivals and institutions that seek only young artists, but occasionally exceptions to this rule can also.

About James W. Hawk - filmmaker

Hawk James W.
(HawkMedia Studios / HawkFilme / OldMan Hawk Film)

James "Jim" W. Hawk was born in New Eagle, Pennsylvania. He is of German, Irish, Scottish and Native American (Seneca) decent. At the age of three, he was moved to Cleveland, Ohio. In 1972, he pursued a career in industrial sales and marketing with a Fortune 500 company which resulted in he and his family being relocate to Rochester, New York, South Bend, Indiana and finally, New Haven, Connecticut.

Jim's first independent film project was a two hour and four part documentary called The Old School Roadster on a Budget featuring Larry, a local car guy who built a Roadster in his garage. It was aired on television stations throughout Connecticut. The next project was a commercial for Doritos. The winner of the contest would have their entry shown during the Super Bowl. He didn't win, but he made an outstanding creative work nonetheless. Having these under his belt, he needed the next greater challenge...he wanted to make a short narrative film.

Jim wrote, produced and directed Alpha to Omega: Part 4 with limited resources, but plenty of ingenuity. He wanted to keep it simple so he developed a story line and screenplay featuring the last man on Earth. After lots of work and some luck finding resources, it all came together as his first narrative short film.

Since that time, he has produced, written and directed several short films, documentaries, music filmes commercials and industrial presentations. He has also worked for the Connecticut Film Industry Training Program for two years as an Associate Producer and Director of the "behind the scenes" film of the program for four years. He has been interviewed on television regarding the making of one of his short films. He has had several minor acting parts in independent films. He has taken filmmaking classes at Quinnipiac University. He has had his films shown at film festivals, on local television and at other public venues.

He is always either planning, producing or searching for his next greater challenge.
