The Odesa International Film Festival presents the Series! sectionScreening five new promising series, the section which is curated by Séries Mania and TV channel “Ukraine” will offer an overview of the upcoming seasons to the festival audience. The 9th Odesa International Film Festival (OIFF) is presenting the Series! section, which is dedicated to upcoming TV series that will be broadcasted across Europe the next season. In collaboration with the leading French series festival, Séries Mania, which curated most of the main programme, and the TV channel “Ukraine”, the Series! section will present the two first episodes of each of the new promising 5 series to the OIFF audience. In details the series screened at the 9th OIFF are: Who Are You? by Anatoliy Mateshko (Ukraine) A psychotherapist, Inga Stefan is in the centre of the story. After a series of mysterious deaths of her patients and disappearance of her fiancé, she starts cooperating with the investigation unit of the police. The head of this department – Major Oleg Mischenko – is born investigator with excellent intuition. He and Inga go through a difficult path of antipathy and conflicts to partnership, friendship, warmth and, finally, love. Working on another complicated case Inga suddenly takes a fresh look at the personality of the criminal. She tries to put herself in the murderer’s place and find answers to the questions “Who are you? What are your motives?” Alongside with the members of the police forces she carries out her own investigations to find out who is guilty in the deaths of her clients and fiancé. Mother Is Wrong by François Velle (France) Captain Marianne Aubrais is a detective with the Le Havre Police Department. Should she believe a child who tells her that his mother is not his mother? After all, she is busy investigating a robbery that happened months ago. Stolen goods worth hundreds of thousands of euros have not been recovered and two fugitives are still at large. But if the kid’s story is not pure fantasy, it would be truly criminal to ignore it. The little boy’s memories are fading. If he is telling the truth, will he never grow up to be the adult he should have become? Will he finally be forced to accept the unthinkable and allow himself to be raised by a woman who may have abducted him? On the Spectrum by Yuval Shafferman (Israel) Three young autistic adults share a home and try find a balance despite the ups and downs of daily life. Driven by enormously endearing characters, On the Spectrum is a funny and moving gem of a series that is carefully-crafted and full of humanity, offering a bold new take on the autistic condition. The Day by Gilles Coulier and Dries Vos (Belgium) A bank robbery in a small town gets out of hand. Police and hostage takers start a nail-biting cat-and-mouse game that holds the town in its grip for an entire day. The series alternately looks at events from the perspective of the police, the press as well as that of the bank robbers, the victims and their families. Each new instalment lifts a tiny piece of the veil, and the viewers gradually realize there’s more to this than meets the eye. The Oil Fund by Harald Zwart (Norway) The brilliant, ambitious and edgy fictional drama that takes an insider look at the colliding worlds of high finance and public service. Per Grepp, deeply flawed financial genius and, according to some, Norway’s sexiest man, puts his country’s economic (and moral) stability at risk when his performance figures drop. With the eyes of the ethics committee on him, will Per be able to manage their growth and sustain his golden boy status? Can the delicate equilibrium between ethics and finance be maintained or will personal agendas inevitably compromise them? – As an exception the first 3 episodes will be screened. 29.06.2018 | Odessa International Film Festival's blog Cat. : FILM
