ConnecTechASia/CommunicAsia 2018, VII: Zoom Launches New F1 Field Recorder

ConnecTechASia/CommunicAsia 2018, VII: Zoom Launches New F1 Field Recorder

Zoom Corporation has a new F1 Field Recorder + Shotgun Mic that mounts to DSLR cameras that have a hot shoe. With a compact design engineered to keep a low profile, and Zoom’s reputation for quality audio equipment, it offers film-makers and videographers an easy way to capture professional quality audio, to meet the demands of their video action.

With more filmmakers, vloggers and journalists using portable DSLR cameras for professional quality shoots, digitally savvy creators are demanding better audio for their video projects. However, portability, durability and versatility are as equally important as the audio they capture. The F1 Field Recorder + Shotgun Mic comes with the SGH-6 Shotgun Mic. The SGH-6 has an aluminium body, which is lightweight yet durable, and records high-resolution audio up to 24 bit/96 kHz.

Set-up is designed to be quick and easy. The included SMF-1 shock mount connects the DSLR to the microphone and eliminates unwanted thumping sounds caused by vibrations when shooting on the move. The F1’s audio output connects to the camera’s input using the included 3.5mm stereo cable, and while recording, the F1 can also record to a micro SD card, providing a separate stereo audio file that allows flexibility in post-production.

New to the F1 Field Recorder is a freshly designed monochromatic display that ensures readability even in direct sunlight. The user can monitor levels, battery life, lo-cut settings and more. Surrounding the display are one-touch controls to make record levels, limiter settings and volume output easily accessible.

Other essential features for videographers include a tone generator, sound markers, on-board limiter and auto-levels, USB connectivity, and more. The F1 can be powered using two AAA batteries (included) or with the optional AD-17 power adapter.

The F1 Field Recorder + Shotgun is the latest addition to the Zoom mic ecosystem, using a proprietary 10-pin connector to make the F1 compatible with all of Zoom’s interchangeable mic capsules and providing options for any recording situation.

After over 3 years of great success with the ever-popular F8, Zoom Corporation introduced their next generation F8n MultiTrack Field Recorder, for the professional sound recording market.

The F8n offers the most compelling set of features ever found in a Zoom recorder, while keeping F8’s winning form factor, with its extraordinarily compact design, and light weight.

The new F8n provides support for +4dB In and Out levels, and allows the Mic/line levels to be selectable for both XLR and TRS inputs. The F8n is equipped with the amazing Advanced Look-Ahead Hybrid Limiters. By adding a 1 millisecond delay, the limiters “look ahead” anticipating clipping before it’s recorded. It also features Zoom's original AutoMix function that automatically adjusts the levels of the mix to reduce the amount of ambient sound. SD Card + USB Audio simultaneous recording is now possible on the F8n and it also retains many of the great features found on the original F8, like precision state-of-the-art time code, wireless blue-tooth control for iOS devices, as well as support for Ambisonics 360 audio for various surround sound and VR applications.

The F1-SP, SGH-6 Shotgun Mic system and F8n are distributed by City Music Co. Pte Ltd in Singapore and available at authorised Zoom resellers.
