Just Film Festival to screen a special programme of short films made by Estonian youthThe 21st Just Film festival, the biggest sub-festival of the Black Nights Film Festival, announces this year's programme, screening films that affect kids and youth from all around the world. For the first time ever, the festival offers the opportunity to watch films that are made by Estonian kids and youth with the help of Just Film's new initiative that awards young filmmakers with scholarships to make their own films.
Just Film celebrates its 21st birthday by showing children’s films, youth films, science and sports documentaries and also children’s rights programmes. The festival has added three special programmes. The first of them is the #youngfilmmaker special programme where we screen short films that are made by Estonian kids and youth. The second is KOOLITANTS@Just (School dance) - it’s a special programme of films where the main characters are young dancers. And third is a Swedish children’s films special programme that introduces Swedish literature and film but also takes a bow to the beloved writer Astrid Lindgren. This year, the festival is presenting films from all around the world - Bolivia, Colombia, Argentina, Kazakhstan and India, among others. Just Film has more than 6 world premieres, 2 European premieres and 3 international premieres. The festival welcomes more than 50 film guests whom the audience can meet in the cinemas. The International Youth Competition programme has 14 films competing for the Just Film Grand Prix, including Estonian director Meel Paliale’s debut feature film “Tree of Eternal Love”. Just Film festival programme director Mikk Granström commented: “This year's competition programme consists of very new films, among them 3 world premieres. The youth film competition programme’s level is higher than it has ever been!” He adds: “These films tell honest and direct stories about the art of being a young person.” The International Youth Competition programme will be seen and judged by a youth jury but also a jury consisting of three international film professionals who will announce Just Film’s Grand Prix 2021 winner. Black Nights Film Festival’s biggest sub-festival, Just Film, takes place from 12th November to 28th November. The full programme is online on www.justfilm.ee. According to the rules set by Estonian officials, all PÖFF and sub festival screenings and events can be visited upon showing a vaccination passport or document proving recovery from COVID during the last 6 months.
