The Sound of UsThe Sound of Us" illustrates that during this critical time in world and U.S. history, music gives sound to hope and courage, allows us to grieve and be honest, and is the great, universal language that unites us all. As the world grapples with unrest the profound truth remains that, through music, we are not alone. The Sound of Us weaves inspiring stories about the beauty and goodness of music with interviews and performances by artists such as Ben Folds, Sarah McLachlan, Avery*Sunshine, Eric Whitacre, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Hiromi, Antonio Sanchez, Butch Walker, Will Wells, Patti Smith, and many more. Combined, these powerful vignettes illustrate how music heals us, gives us hope for the future through our children, keeps our heritage and history alive, allows us to have the most difficult of conversations, sheds light on current struggles, and continues to invite us back to the thing that unites us all - music. The film is directed by Chris Gero, a Grammy nominated, American music industry executive, concert producer, record producer, songwriter, film director and composer, founder of Yamaha Entertainment Group of America and Chief Artist Relations Executive for Yamaha Artist Relations Group
The Sound of us to receive The Movie That Matters Award in CannesTHE MOVIE THAT MATTER AWARD TO CHRIS GERO FOR THE SOUND OF USAnother Award expected for Chris Gero July 12 during the Better World Fund Gala in Cannes! The concept of the Award, created by Bruno Chatelin, was inspired by his days running Sony in France when the Chairman of the company David Puttnam tagged the Studio's mission with this inspiring mission "Making Movies that Matter" : very relevant, very important and visionnary. Since its creation the award has only been handed (in Cannes) to a very small number of films. All films awarded meant a lot to Bruno, all were bringing strong and positive messages, showing the brighter side of human soul: films which inspire, call for action and change, and make an impact. A prestigious and rare honor handed by filmfestivals.com to selected filmmakers with a strong message. I will hand you the award at the Better Word Forum gala may 12, and will be making the Cannes trip specially for that occasion
Bruno Chatelin stated "I am the founder of filmfestivals.com, a former distributor with Sony then Fox Studios in France, but the idea of honouring movies that matter sparkled when speaking in Cannes 1987 with my boss David Puttnam who was the Chairman / CEO of the Sony Studio. He boldly tagged the Sony studio “Making Movies that Matter”. Which intrigued me a lot for a Hollywood studio organized around commercial tentpoles, blockbusters, action films etc… I am proud of his inspiration. Since the creation we have only given such awards on very few occasions in the last decade. Films honored were Bilal , Junod, Release from Heaven in 2016, Iqbal (2017), Yellow Submarine (2018,) Pope Francis a man of his word 2019.
Filmfestivals.com last offered a 'Movie That Matter' "Power Panel" with Wim Wenders and the Director of Communication of the Vatican (around his film on Pope Francis) PAB Interviewed on camera
Pictured prizes for Bilal, Yellow Submarine, Boyz'n The Hood, Release from Heaven and Iqbal
