Adem Başaran

Director: Orhan İnce.

Mesut Basaran is a Kurdish boy who is Turkish citizen and live in southern province of Turkey. In 1993, Mesut and family forced to migration by politics and they move to big city, İstanbul.

Mesut and family starts a new life in this new city. Mesut goes to school several times. Mesut's little brother Adem Basaran is also lives in same conditions. They don't know how to live in İstanbul. Because their Turkish and also their money are not enough. Mesut has to make a choice.

Prelude

Director: Simon Welch.

Sequences of a contemporary Cinderella practising a Bach prelude and struggling to keep up with the tyrannical precision of metronomic rhythm are juxtaposed with images of her daily life, thereby generating the soundtrack for her own “film”. The metronome precisely beats time in a mechanical rather than a “musical” manner and may be a help or hindrance to development. The repetitious nature of piano practice suggests that the girl’s existence is also repetitive and that negative aspects of her relationship with her mother may be a prelude for future relationships.

Second edition of the International Festival of Short Fiction Films from the Islands of the World: Courts des îles

The APICA, an association for the promotion of images, creation, and the arts, based in French Polynesia organizes from March 7th to 15th, 2015 the second edition of the International Festival of Short Fiction Films from the Islands of the World: Courts des îles, in Papeete, Tahiti (French Polynesia).

The perspective of island directors at the heart of the “Courts des îles” Festival

The APICA wishes to highlight island sensitivities from all over the world through their audiovisual and cinematic creations, by gathering them around a unique event: The International Festival of Short Fiction Films from the Islands of the World, Courts des îles.

From Java to Madagascar, from Iceland to New Zealand, from the Bahamas to Guadeloupe, from Hawaii to Tasmania… Courts des îles hopes to be an open window on island cultures, singular of pluralistic, a link between these young creators, directors from the islands of the world who tell us their stories.

Celebrating the islands of the world through a specific form of expression: short fiction films

A space for creation, experimentation, a genuine springboard for young creators, but also a formidable means to develop personal projects, short fiction films are pregnant with promise for film production worldwide, and generate great interest today from the public as well as broadcasters.

The Courts des îles Festival explores the richness, the diversity, and the uniqueness of island authors and directors’ imagination through this specific form of expression, in a different way than documentaries, which are more anchored in the real world.

A place of discovery and sharing around island creativity

A veritable journey around the world of island creativity: from Europe to Asia, from America to Oceania, and through Africa, Courts des îles is also a place of exchange and sharing for festival attendees, who will be able to contrast their experiences, their points of mutual interest, and their differences during workshops, round tables, and conferences organized around the themes of screenwriting, directing, and producing short fiction films.

Beyond the screening of short fiction films from the islands of the world, the Courts des îles Festival will give pride of place to a different island every year through the best short films that are produced there. For this second edition, New Zealand will be the guest of honor of the International Festival of Short Fiction Films from the Islands of the World.

Only Fair

Director: Peter Rautek.

The short film „Only Fair“ travells through the history of mankind. During this journey man has increasingly distanced from nature and lost the sense for what really matters in the end. But fatal actions of the past do not remain unpunished – stress, diseases, addiction, greed, power and fear are hard on our heels. Is it only fair that one little mistake could erase mankind forever from the blue planet? Or is the question rather when we take this final step? Will the world be a better place after creation's crowning glory has vanished?

ASYLUM

Director: CECILE RITTWEGER.
An interpreter. Totally cold and distant: very professional. Her position? In between: on one side, refugees exposing their suffering, on the other side, doctors, solicitors or psychiatrists, who know how to help them. And she herself can only decode words and relay information, filtering emotions and hiding all about herself. She knows how to swallow, filter and regurgitate. Until the arrival of an African whose charm dramatically arouses her. This meeting is going to stir up all the emotions she had kept hidden and to question her go-between role in the triangular communication. Another universe starts to rise to the surface.
