Film allows you to see the world without leaving your seat.
My third day at DIFF took me from Lisbon to a farm in Africa, the Deep South, the Philippines and Paris. Dark clouds rolled into Durban yesterday, but the sun always shines at the movies (thank you A-Ha).
My first film was the wonderful black and white Portuguese film, Tabu. The competition film is filled with nostalgia. It is set in modern-day Lisbon and in 1930s colonial Africa.
It is a wonderful love story remi...

The films in the series offer a variety of pleasures, both visual and sensual. FIRE IN BABYLON by Stevan Riley is a story of the succe...

“Keep Surfing” This German documentary, directed and produced by Bjorn Richie Lob, demonstrates how you “don’t need an ocean to surf”, and how “you can surf a wave forever”. Travel to Munich, Germany, on the “Eisbach River”, just past the bridge near the “Haus der Kunst” art museum, where the man-made river and tributary to the Isar River, forms a standing wave about one meter high. Surfers have placed a piece of wood in a certain direction in the water to help shape ...

Uma Thurman in MOTHERHOOD
At the Woodstock Film Festival, which today concludes its five-day marathon of film premieres, industry seminars, music concerts and groovy parties, film directors generally get all the attention. Director: Jonno Durrant / Stefan Hunt.
Two young Australian surfer/filmmakers decide to travel to America and surf all fifty states. They find innovative and hilarious ways to surf in places like Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska, and demolish long-standing myths, not to mention surfboards, their old ice cream truck touring vehicle, and nearly themselves as well, as they journey across the country introducing surfing to astonished locals who have never seen a surfboard or surfers in their lives.
In this enjoyable film for the whole family, their infectious enthusiasm and humor inspires folks of all ages and ethnicities to get out and explore the world in their own unique and fun way. The boys demonstrate that you can make your own fun anywhere you go, even surfing where there are no waves.
