The Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLIFF) has a reputation for showcasing the best new films from the American indie movement. With the difficulties of the theatrical market and the overall economic slump in the industry, film festivals have become a prime outlet for these kinds of films.
This evening, the breezy comedy SEDUCING CHARLIE BARKER by Amy Glazer, will make its Southeast Premiere at the Festival, followed by a swanky after-party. The film tells the tale of Charlie Barker, an accomplished and respected actor in the New York scene. Married for ten years to Stella, a television talk show producer who is equally accomplished and respected, with one difference. She works and Charlie auditions. Despite that small drawback, they are happy and content despite all the crap their respective professions throw at them.
When Charlie attends a party thrown by his former best friend/accountant turned TV writer, they happen upon sexy, dumb and definitely weird Clea, a sex bomb who is at turns entertaining, engaging and repulsive all at once. How this encounter effects his main relationship and his view of himself is at the core of this smart, biting, clever, funny and deeply dark film. The film includes bravura performances from an attractive cast, including Daphne Zuniga, Stephen Barker Turner, Heather Godon, David Wilson Barnes, Steve Cell and Maurice Kanbar.
