HEARING FROM THE TRAINEES…
“Attending the S3D Campus (andDimension 3 Expo) was of great benefit to me intellectually and professionally, including meeting such a wide variety of European media professionals with thecommon interest of producing quality stereographic 3D in the future,” explainsRichard Villeneuve, from England. Thistraining session was created with support from providers and manufacturers, aswell as from the EU’s MEDIA program, allowing several participants to take partin ambitious projects: “Since I did the course I have been producer of two 3Dprojects. Both are for the Sky3D channel herein the UK,” explains Darren Bender, nearly one year after the session.Jean-Charles Le Quintrec, who works at Arte, collaborated on an S3D filmingusing 6 cameras during a concert by Marina & the Diamonds at the New PopFestival in Baden-Baden. Arte has also offered the Side-by-Side master of Slava'sSnowshow, produced by Orange (this telco has broadcast theshow on its network, with Arte’s logo). In February, 2011, the Berlinale haspresented Win Wenders' Pina (3D),co-produced with Arte. Other projects involving Arte France, Arte Deutschlandor Arte GEIE as producers or co-producers are still underway in France as wellas Germany.
TheS3D Campus experience provides trainees with technical skills that enable themto lead personal projects: “After working for 21st Century 3D inNew York in January of 2011, I directed and edited a promotional film in S3Dfor a marketing event held in Ljubljana, Slovenia,” saysRahela Jagric. Also from the class of 2010, Elen Lotman, from Estonia, had theopportunity to work on a short fiction film in S3D as second assistantcameraman, and she is currently developing a personal project. It is also thecase of Benoît Lafaille, who explains: “I took some shots in S3D using aPanasonic camera during a conference. I am currently developing an animatedclip featuring S3D elements. It will be entitled House’sMouses, and projected on building facades. The project is in its early stages,I am working on the storyboard.”
These accountsshow how the S3D Campus experience achieve professionals immediately up and running. The S3D Campus training sessions give theopportunity to develop a European network of qualified technicians, producersand creatives who can rise to the new challenges of S3D.
