Malatya Reveals the ‘International Competition’ Films

Turkey’s up and coming new festival ‘Malatya International Film Festival’ is preparing to run its second edition from 18th November to 24th November this year.  The festival - which was welcomed with a great interest by the movie lovers last year- announced its ‘International Feature Film’ Competition nominations. The festival is organized by World Mass Media Research Foundation with the support of the Malatya Apricot Research, Development and Promotion Foundation and Malatya Governorship and the Malatya Governor Ulvi Saran.   The ‘International Films’ to Compete;

Panic-fuelled, they slowly turn into insidious enemies. VISUL LUI ADALBERT / ADALBERT'S DREAM, Gabriel Achim, Romania, 2011, 96’“Adalbert’s Dream” is a black comedy based on a real story that happened in a Romanian factory in the 80’s communist era. A work accident is re-enacted, but the re-enactment turns into a new accident: the worker playing the victim gets his hand cut off, as well. The film is set near the end of Ceausescu’s dictatorship against the backdrop of Romania’s finest moment in soccer: the victory of Steaua Bucharest over Barcelona during the 1986 European Cup Final. LES FEMMES DU 6ÉME ÉTAGE / THE WOMEN ON THE 6th FLOOR, Philippe LeGuay, France 2010, 104’, 2011 Audience Award, Aspen FFParis, in the early 1960s. In their company - and more precisely in the company of beautiful Maria - Jean-Louis will gradually become another man, a better man. A JAMAÂ / THE MOSQUE, Daoud Aoulad-Syad, Morocco, France 2010, 85’To make Aoulad-Syad’s previous film “Waiting for Pasolini”, sets were built on plots rented from those living in the village. A mosque was erected on the plot belonging to Moha, a local appearing in the film. On completing the shooting, the film team left the village. The neighbours demolished all of the sets, except for the mosque, which has become a real place of worship for those who live there.
