MAR DEL PLATA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (IMF)
OPENING NIGHT
The 20th edition of the Mar del Plata International Film Festival (MIFF) started with guests walking a blue carpet, because the traditionally red carpet changed its colour according to the artistic desing of the fest organizers. It's colour, like other elements, represents the image of Mar del Plata Film Festival. This proposal has already showed at the last edition, when the name of the prize (OMBU in that moment) was changed for ASTOR, who is one of the most popular musicians from Mar del Plata, and Argentina.
In the opening night the Astor Piazzolla room of the Theatre was full. The Festival was presented by the President of Argentine Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA) and the Director of MIFF who said again that the festival have not celebrities, because the films are more importants, “the films are stars”. Movies from Germany, Argentina, Austria, Belgium. Brazil, South Korea, Denmark, Spain, USA, Finland, France, Iran, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Morocco, Portugal, and Sweden are in competition.
After a short film about the history of the MIFF, the film by Bahman Ghobadi TURTLES CAN FLY opened the show. The iranian film received loud applause and when the screening ended the audience came out the room in silence.
