The 9th Santa Cruz Film Festival will run May 6-15, 2010.
Festival Transitions
Following the conclusion of SCFF 2009, the Festival underwent a considerable transition. SCFF Founder and Executive Director Jane Sullivan decided to take a leave of absence. We wish Jane the best of luck in her travels and look forward to her return refreshed and reinvigorated.
"I will be taking some time off to pursue various projects," Jane said, "and trust that you all will continue to support the Santa Cruz Film Festival, a dynamic and culturally rich event brought to you by many dedicated community members."
To fill the void left by Jane's departure, the Festival has formed an Executive Leadership Team and tapped the considerable talents of our stable of dedicated volunteers for additional support. Julian Soler, Allie Wilson, Beth Gummere, Mike Gendimenico, and Eric Sassaman will lead the Festival effort this year. We intend to continue the tradition of bringing excellent films to Santa Cruz and we're grateful for your support.

2009 SCFF Films Update
Finally, we'd like to share a few success stories from the work we presented last year.
SCFF 2009 Documentary Grand Jury Prize Winner, Salute, signed a US digital rights deal with Cinetic Media in November which will give it more much needed exposure. Joe Berlinger's Crude has been touring the country to packed houses since the Festival. The film, produced by Radical Media, has been running in limited release since September. Babz Chula won a Leo Award (British Columbia's version of the Academy Awards) for Best Lead Performance by a Female in a Feature Length Drama for her performance in Carl Bessai's Mothers&Daughters. And 2009 Feature Documentary Audience Award Winner, An Unlikely Weapon, is in self distribution and continues to screen around the country.
Congratulations to these filmmakers and all the others who are enjoying further success since they joined us at SCFF. We are thrilled to have been a part of the journey.
