While waiting in the last-minute line at the Palais last night in hopes of getting into the second showing of Moonrise Kingdom, I met a few of the young crew members from Future Masters of Technology, a British independent filmmaking company comprised of mulit-award winning individuals who "pride [them]selves on [their] ability to produce low-budget films to a high-budget standard." The first man who introduced himself was Anthony Woodley, the writer, director, and one of the producers of their new film premiering at the Festival, OUTPOST 11.
OUTPOST 11 is a psychological feature-length steam-punk thriller set deep within the Arctic circle. In an alternative past where steam power still rules the world, the story follows three soldiers manning a remote listening post in the Arctic Circle. When the warning light unexpectedly turns on, their world is plunged into chaos. Albert, Mason and Graham must fight the isolation, madness and arctic spiders to survive. "Think: The Thing plus How I Ended this Summer mixed with Videodrome."
OUTPOST 11 will be screening in Palais D, today at 17:30 and Saturday at 22:00.
