Last night, amid a sea of colorful balloons, the stars ascended the red carpet for the premier of Disney-Pixar's “Up”. The film is the firstanimated feature to open the Cannes Film Festival. The crowds clamored forviews of the red carpet while tuxedo clad paparazzi snapped away.
Fans in evening gowns and tuxedos could be spotted holding signsreading: “One ticket for “UP”? S'il vous plaît?” Most were unsuccessful as ticket beggars, still in formalwear, dusted the nightlife.
Disney-Pixar's whimsical-themed premier party was held in beachside tent along the Croisette. Rotating trays displayed colorful macarons and other tasty treats while a model of a house being swept away by balloons overlooked the event and could be spotted all along the Croisette. In true Cannes style, the entire event was over the top and highly exclusive.
The Croisette is bustling today, after an exciting premiere, as the 62nd Cannes International Film Festival is now officially open. Some rain in the forecast is hardly enough to keep the hard driven festival-goers in hiding, as it is more crowded then even.
