29th Annual CMJ Music Marathon CoverageBy Maria Esteves - November 29, 2009 The 29th Annual 2009 College Music Journal Music Marathon & Film Festival (CMJ09), the largest international new music discovery event was held at over 75 venues throughout New York City, from October 20-24, 2009. The outstanding festival showcased music marathon, film festival, exhibit hall, panel discussions, seminars, comedy shows, special events, parties, concerts, and awards ceremony. This year's music style/genres by 1,300 bands from around the world (Africa, Australia, USA, Britain, Canada, Denmark, Iceland, Ireland, New Zealand, Sweden), included rock, pop, folk, punk, funk, hip-hop, heavy metal, and infused jazz. Daytime seminars included Entertainment Business Law, with featured speaker co-CEO, John Scher of Metropolitan Talent, and panel discussion HAIR: The Music, The History, The Revival. Attendees included recording artists, DJs (disc jockeys), producers, promoters, remixers, college radio programmers, managers, industry executives, and journalists. CMJ ‘09 "MpressFest," presented by MPress Records and Social Exposure was held at Gallery Bar, Thursday, October 22, 7:00 PM. Showcased artist were MPress founder and two time Independent Music Award winner Rachael Sage; New York Songwriters Circle Grand Prize and Cosmopolitan Magazine Star Launch Award winner Mieka Pauley; ANTIGONE RISING; with a special debut CD release party for MPress Records artist Seth Glier (The Trouble with People). CMJ ‘09 Artists Lounge presented by Altec Lansing featured exhibits, live performances, comedy, and film screenings at the Pure Volume House, New York, October 20-24, 2009. The lounge offered daily massages, trend setting hairstyles from ARROJO, and interview areas for CMJ's industry professionals, artists, and press. CMJ09 Opening Night Happy Hour hosted by Altec Lansing commenced Tuesday, October 20, 2009, 4 - 7 PM.
