20th Century Studios president, Steven Asbell has said that the script for the fourth movie in the Planet of The Apes film series is coming close to completion. He has indicated that this could mean that filming starts in the fall of 2022.

It may come as a surprise to Planet of The Apes audiences that there is going to be another film as the movies seemed to have reached a conclusion in War for The Planet of The Apes which was released in 2017. However, in the passing five years, the studio has obviously decided that there is more mileage in this rebooted franchise. This fourth film might be the one that finally completes this current series.

It is reported that Asbell touched on the future of the franchise while discussing a number of 20^th Century Studio updates in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. He said that he hoped that the cameras would get rolling later this year and that the film would be directed by Wes Bell. Disney's take over concerned some fans, but they will be reassured to know that many of the previous writers and crew are working on the current title. The rebooted trilogy has, to date featured a deeply thoughtful storyline and stunning special effects. Andy Serkis stunned audiences with his breath-taking performance in The Rise of The Planet of The Apes and he won an Oscar for best support actor at the Academy Awards in 2012.

Planet of the Apes originally came to our screens way back in 1968. Starring Charlton Heston it was adapted from a novel by Pierre Boulle. It managed to be acclaimed as having one of the most unexpected movie finales ever. The original film saw an astronaut crash into a planet that is inhabited by walking, talking apes. The shock of the finale was that the planet he was on was actually Earth.  There were four sequels to the original movie and in 1974 CBS broadcast a Planet of The Apes TV series starring Roddy McDowall. The show was canceled after 14 weeks in the US due to low ratings. Ironically it went on to be a huge success in the UK where it was a staple part of the British TV schedule for years.

Tim Burton revived the title for a one-off movie thirty years after the Heston original and it was reasonably successful. It was not until 2011 that the latest reboot premiered and The Rise of The Planet of the Apes created a prequel to the 1968 film. It also pulled in aspects and storytelling from the original movies.

It is not surprising that a storyline that has engaged viewers for over fifty years is popular with both studios and audiences alike. It isn't only the filmmakers' imagination that has been inspired by Pierre Boules book. In 1983 Revenge of the Apes was released for the Atari 2600 console. It never got beyond the prototype stage as the developer, 20^th Century Fox, closed its game division in the video game crash of the same year.

In 2001 Fox Interactive launched a new version of the game which was available for Windows and PlayStation. It was also available for the GameBoy, Nintendo's hand-held console. The game did not receive good reviews however and when Rise of The Planet of Apes debuted in 2011 there was no video game this time. However, for those who enjoy iGaming and online gambling in Canada, there is a slots version of the game. The Planet of the Apes video slot combines two of the newer movie titles. On the left of the screen is a Rise of The Planet of The Apes Slot and on the right, you get Dawn of The Planet of The Apes from the 2014 film title. The 2017 film, War of The Planet of The Apes does not feature in this game.
