EKO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL PRESENTATION

July 7-12, 2010

The purpose of Eko International Film Festival is to:

...organize an annual Independent film festival for the promotion of the Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for he sustainable development of the Nigerian film industry locally and internationally by the promotion of cooperation and support between local and foreign filmmakers, professionals and other stakeholders to use the motion picture arts and sciences for mass communication for the promotion of commerce and industry for the benefit of Lagos state and the rest of the world.

...help to advance the education of the public in the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the motion picture arts and sciences, particularly the art of film and allied visual techniques. In furtherance of the foregoing objective, but not further or otherwise, the Eko International Film Festival shall have the power to promote the study and appreciation of films by means of lectures, discussions and exhibitions.

The Eko International Film Festival will help with publicity and the technical aspects of screenings of movies in all genres.

...organize movie screenings of films in the 35mm or 16mm formats as far as scheduling, screening and publicity are concerned.

...cooperate with various internal and external cultural organizations, film festivals and distributors (like embassies, Goethe Institute, Harvard Film Archives) in obtaining movies, information and/or speakers for the appreciation and promotion of movies during and after the film festival.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

Films must fit into one of the seven categories:
Fiction
Comedy
Drama
Horror
Documentaries
Student Film
1 minute short films.

Submissions are now open for 2010

All music and other copyrighted materials used in the films must be original or filmmakers must have obtained permission in writing from the owner, such permissions to be submitted with the film.

All films must be submitted in English or subtitled in English.

GENERAL RULES:
Films must be submitted on DVD NTSC or PAL (please test before sending) and be available for screening on 35mm composite condition, Beta SP or Digi-Beta Video (NTSC only for festival screening).
Films must have been completed after April 1, 2008. Films must be available for screening during the Eko International Film Festival, July 7-12, 2009.

Narrative and Documentary films with U.S. distribution (obtained prior to being selected for EKOIFF screening) or films produced, financed or initiated by a major film studio or television network are ineligible for competition, but may be considered for special screening. Selection for screening will be determined no later than one month prior to the festival. Films that have screened on major cinemas and cable network or distributed to theaters prior to the festival dates are also ineligible for competition.
Films that have played in Nigeria in a theatrical setting to a public audience are not eligible to be screened at the EKOIFF 2010.

AWARDS

Narrative Films
1st Place Winners receive a cash prize of $1,000 (Narrative Feature Category) or $500 (Narrative Short and Student Short Categories); reimbursement (up to $500) of one round-trip airfare to Lagos to attend the 2010 EKOIFF; hotel compensation at the Film Festival (up to $500); a special Winners screening during the Festival.

Documentary Films

1st Place Winners receive a cash prize of $500 (Documentary Feature Category only); reimbursement (up to $500) of one round-trip airfare to Austin to attend the 2010 EKOIFF, hotel compensation at the Film Festival (up to $500), a special Winners screening during the Festival.

1 Minute Short Film
1st Place Winners receive reimbursement (up to $500) of one round-trip airfare to Austin to attend the 2010 EKOIFF, hotel compensation at the Film Festival (up to $500), a special Winners screening during the Festival.

The Filmfestivals.com prize will grant a $1000 promotion campaign on filmfestivals.com and fest21.com websites to the best international 1 minute short.

SUBMISSION DEADLINES AND FEES
Standard Deadline: March 30, 2010 $50 (USD)
Late Deadline: April 20, 2010 $75 (USD)
Final Deadline: May 15, 2010 $100 (USD)

SUBMIT YOUR SHORT FILM

To complete the submission you must follow three steps:

1. Create your free film account on Fest21.com.
Open your film promo blog on the leading fest circuit community (media, festivals and other film professionnals, 350 000 visitors per month).
Register the film in the fest21.com/ filmfestivals.com database if not previously listed.
Upload the press kit & trailer on your profile, you may want to feed the blog with more news, images, film stills to showcase and promote.
