Coming Soon to a 'Youtube' Near You...

Youtube is expanding? ...What's new?

We're particularly intrigued and excited by the latest expansion of youtube, its first full-length film.  Luc Besson's and Yann-Arthus Betrand's 90-minute environmental awareness film Home will be the first full-length film to be available on youtube in its entirety.  The youtube release date will occur simultaneously with the theatrical and DVD release dats on June 5, World Environment Day.  All releases will be free of charge except for DVDs, which will sell at cost.

Home uses beautiful aerial shots from over 50 countries to portray the adverse effects humans have had on their environment and raise awareness for desperately needed preservation efforts.  Thus the producers have decided to make the film as accessible as possible in order to further their awareness goals.  Youtube's Anthony Zamezowski has been in Cannes discussing Home's imminent release date.  He believes that releasing the film on youtube will not only give viewers a more convenient viewing option but will also add value by giving the viewer "the opportunity to interact with the content, post comments and so on."

Youtube already provides an incomprehensible amount of content.  According to Zamezowski, "some 15 hours of video content is uploaded onto YouTube every minute, the equivalent of 86,000 movies a week."  It is only logical that the next step for youtube would be the full-length frontier.
