Dozens Storm Out During "House of Tolerance" Screening

Ridiculous and objectionable . . . L’Apollonide: The House of Tolerance

During a May 17th screening of “House of
Tolerance,” many found the film too difficult to watch and stormed out of the
theater in disgust. It’s certainly not a pleasant viewing experience. The film
tells the story of a Paris brothel living it’s last days at the turn of the 20th
century and features many disturbing and graphic images. As a first time Cannes
Film Festival attendee, I had been told many times about the picky Cannes
audience, but had yet to experience it for myself. At points, I too was tempted
to abandon the theater, but why not finish what you’ve already started? I was
anticipating boos at the end of the screening, but to my surprise, the film received
applause from those remaining in the theater.
