Crowds gathered Saturday evening to catch U2 perform for free on the red carpet. The show was held at 12:30 a.m. and preceded the showing of "U23D", a documentary about the Irish band. Crammed between hundreds of spectators, the setting was just as glamorous as could be. Men in Tuxedos were lined up along the red carpet, and paparazzi anxiously awaited the arrival of Bono, the Edge, and the rest of the classic rock band. While waiting, the crowd enjoyed hits from the band as they blared over loud speakers. Some of the songs played included: "The Sweetest Thing", "With or Without You", and "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", to name a few. Many people sand along to the music while patiently waiting. When the band came out the crowd went wild. Lead singer, Bono, energenically addressed the fans, wishing Cannes a happy birthday in french. The band played 2 of their big hits: "Vertigo" and "Where the Streets Have No Name". The crowd was loving every minute of the performance, rapidly taking photos and video shots. When finished, Bono said thank you and goodnight. The crowd gave a mixed response of cheers and disappointment that the show was so quickly finished. After a moment or two, the streets began to clear as the film was about to commence. There was still, of course, excitement in the air thanks to the show. For some, the show was a great finale for the evening. For others, however, it kicked off a great night of celebrating with great friends at the Cannes Film Festival.
