Connecting through Dance

Los Angeles, CA May 15, 2013 / Director Javier Badillo and writer/actress Liberty Kee bring their second collaboration, a short film entitled Afternoon at Gudrun, to the 2013 Cannes Film Festival in the Short Film Corner. Shot on 35mm, the film explores what happens when a shy, awkward waitress with a passion for the waltz meets a friendly, handsome customer looking for lessons. The film also features an original and delightful musical score that has caught the attention of distinguished industry professionals.

Afternoon at Gudrun is a romantic comedy made in Canada that will strike a tender chord with audiences. Integral to this mood is the film’s small but talented cast, who are able to give just the right amount of humour and sensitivity to an age old dilemma.

Olivia, played by Liberty Kee, is a pretty but desperately timid waitress who must overcome her shyness in order to connect with Patrick (Steven Holmes), a handsome customer who needs to learn to dance for his sister’s (Teagan Vincze) wedding. Ricky (Dwayne Bryshun), Olivia’s manager and friend, coaches her through a series of humorous, but all too familiar failed attempts to make contact. This eight-minute film will appeal to anyone who has ever battled shyness in the face of a budding romance, as well as anyone with an appreciation for music or dance.

Afternoon at Gudrun is to be shown at the official 66th Festival De Cannes Court Métrage 2013, a great honor and an extraordinary moment for Javier Badillo and Liberty Kee. With plenty of experience including other films and television appearances, the two look forward to reaching new audiences across the world with their latest film. This quirky romantic comedy is a fantastic achievement for everyone involved in its making and a pleasure for all who watch.
