"terroir" selected to Newlyn PZ International Film Festival & nom for Best Female Director!"terroir" has been accepted to the 2021 Newlyn PZ International Film Festival, based in Penzance, Cornwall, England. The film's director, Dawn Westlake, has been nominated for the BEST FEMALE DIRECTOR award. Originally scheduled for the end of April 2020, the festival has been postponed one year. "terroir" is about how the mother-child relationship may unfortunately cloud our perceptions of very capable female leaders in all sectors of society. The piece is based on a poem Westlake wrote that her composer GC Johnson set to music. Johnson also coached and mixed Westlake's singing voice in his Acoustic Labs studio. "terroir" was filmed on location in Wheaton & Peru, IL USA, Vilafranca del Penedes, Catalunya, Spain and in the snowy mountains of Font Romeu, France by Pol Carrizo Vilarroig of Imatge Barcelona. Carrizo also did the considerable editing and visual effects. "terroir" marks the professional acting debut of 4-year-old actress Lilly Johnson. Johnson plays Westlake at age 4 in 1969 and her mother as a toddler in approximately 1930.
