1 night only Cabbagetown Short Film and Video Festival

15th Annual Cabbagetown Short Film and Video Festival screening runs Friday, September 8
The 15th Annual Cabbagetown Short Film & Video Festival is set to run this year for one night only on Friday, September 8, 2006 at the Winchester Street Theatre (home of the Toronto Dance Theatre), in the Old Cabbagetown district.
The Cabbagetown Short Film & Video Festival will showcase eighteen short films from around the world and around the corner, and for those who crave the film festival experience without the long line-ups or expense, the 15th Annual Cabbagetown Short Film & Video Festival is just the alternative ticket.
Cabbagetown actress, producer, and writer Gina Dineen, founded the festival fifteen years ago, and since then it has grown into an impressive international juried screening, which has showcased many aspiring Canadian filmmakers including John Fawcett, Vincenzo Natali, Michael Dowse, and Sarah Polley.
The 2006 programme, selected from 300 submissions received from such locales as Toronto, Australia, India, South Korea, and Kazakhstan, will cover the full range of genres including animation, documentary, dramatic narrative, comedy, experimental and music. None of the productions run longer than 15 minutes, with the shortest clocking in at 0:54 seconds.
A jury of Canadian film industry professionals including Barbara Willis-Sweete (Rhombus Media), Zach Feldberg (Showcase), Mike McConnell (Magnetic North), and Jasper Graham (Futureshorts Canada) selected the festival award recipients.
Tim Hortons is sponsoring the $500.00 Grand Prize, which has been selected to go to one of the Toronto filmmakers, and Shoppers Drug Mart, Joe’s No Frills, HomeLife Realty One, Royal Home Hardware, and Advent Disc Corporation are sponsoring the five other awards.
Local director Ralph Lucas’s short, “Stopping In Cabbagetown” will launch the September 8 showcase, and the audience will vote for the winner of the People’s Choice Award, which will be announced at the public after party at The Cobourg, 533 Parliament Street, Cabbagetown’s newest wine bar.

Tickets: $10.00, available in advance at the Old Cabbagetown BIA Office, 237 Parliament St. at Carlton, (416) 921-0857 or at the door at the Winchester Street Theatre, 80 Winchester St. (home of the Toronto Dance Theatre).
Date: Friday, September 8, doors open at 7:00pm. Screening runs from 8:00pm to 11:00pm.
Details: There will be two intermissions. Refreshments will be available at the cash bar.
Pizza Pizza, Great Lakes Beer, and Stoneyridge Wines provided refreshment support.
Everyone is invited to the after party at The Cobourg, 533 Parliament St., north of Carlton.
