A $10,000 development prize at Victoria Film Festival

A $10,000 development prize is up for grabs at the next Victoria Film Festival.
The competition will be a highlight of the Festival's SpringBoard industry event and pitches will be heard on February 4. The entire Festival runs February 3 - 12, 2012.

KCTS9, a public television station in Seattle, Washington who is partnering with VFF, is seeking proposals to compete for a grant of US $10,000 to enable the winning filmmaker to develop a documentary project and prepare a trailer. The final round of the pitching contest will occur at the 2012 Victoria Film Festival's SpringBoard Industry event happening February 3-5, 2012, where one project will be awarded a $10,000 development fund for their project.

When asked about the implementation of a new development prize, Senior VP of Content John Lindsay said, “This Call for Submissions is a sign of KCTS9’s commitment to documentary filmmakers in the North West Pacific region and also of our intention to produce programming about and for countries in the Asia-Pacific region. We know that good development costs money and we are putting our money where our mouth is.”

This is the first time that SpringBoard is offering a pitching competition and VFF board member Pat Ferns was integral to bringing KCTS9 to the table, “Springboard is honoured to be one of three platforms that KCTS9 is using to express its commitment to documentary filmmaking in the Pacific Rim.
During challenging times for documentary filmmakers, this initiative is a breath of fresh air.”
