Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes

Anton Corbijn will visit Stockholm November 22-25.

Photographer and director Anton Corbijn will visit the Stockholm International Film Festival to screen his feature debut Control. Control, a biopic of Joy Division front figure Ian Curtis, is in competition and has the chance to win the prestigious Bronze Horse.
Anton Corbijn began his career as a photographer in London in the late 70’s, where he photographed bands like Joy Division and Public Image Ltd. He’s worked with bands like U2, Metallica, The Rolling Stones and R.E.M, but is probably best known for his extensive collaboration with Depeche Mode. Corbijn has directed numerous music videos, and in 1993 he made his first short film: Some YoYo Stuff.

Control is based on the biography Touching from a Distance, by Ian Curtis’ wife Deborah. Curtis was the singer of post-punk band Joy Division, and suffered from severe epilepsy and depression. He committed suicide at the age of 23, shortly before Joy Divison were about to embark on their first US tour. Ian Curtis is played by Sam Riley (24 Hour Party People), and his young wife Deborah by Samantha Morton (Morvern Callar, Minority Report).
