AsoloArtFilmFestival wrapped with award to Giulio Gianini

Mario Martone’s “Caravaggio” gets the ‘Asolo Grand Prix’ Award

Giulio Gianini gets the “Flavia Paulon” award for a significant career contribution Mario Martone’s “Caravaggio, the final years” is winner of the 24th AsoloArtFilmFestival that was held in Asolo from 5th – 12th November. Caravaggio, ‘fatally wounded in Naples’, finds a tragic but spirited vision of human existence in this city. The jury described it as a “brilliantly shot film that interprets the historic grand tradition of the past captured in its perennial topicality”.

The other awards went to Thierry Knauff’s “Solo” (Belgium) shared on an equal footing with Iana and Joao Viana’s “A Piscina – The Swimming Pool” (Portugal) for the category “Films on Art”; the award for the category “Artist Biography” went to André Dartevelle’s “Tableaux dans un grenier: Roger La Croix” (Belgium); the award for the category “Videoart and Computer Art” went to Ivan Stanev’s “Villa dei Misteri” (Germany).
Rowena Cohen’s “The Marvelling Lens” (UK) bagged the award for the best Production by a renowned school of cinema. In the category “The Challenge of Eroticism” the award went to Toma Waszarow’s “The Kiss” (Bulgaria). The “Francesco Malipiero Grand Prix” award for the best musical score went to Luca Scarzella and Enzo Procopio’s “Codice Aperto” (Italy).

The “Jury’s Special Award” went to “Artists in Fiction – RAI fiction on the artists”, produced by RAI and directed by Silvana Palumbieri.

Giulio Gianini, expert cinema photographer, got the “Flavia Paulon Award” in recognition of his significant career contribution. Piero Tommaselli’s “Simone Lecca e il cinema (dell’)in-visibile” written by the students of the New University of Cinema and Television in Rome received a special mention from the jury.

The jury which was headed by Vittorio Di Giacomo had examined the 167 films selected by a selection committee from a total of 679 entries received from 48 countries.
