Australian International Documentary Conference 2007 Announced

The Media Resource Centre (MRC) and Australian International Documentary Conference 2007 (AIDC) have partnered to create the AIDC Fringe – a day of seminars, workshops and master classes at the Mercury and Iris Cinemas on February 27.

The AIDC Fringe will take advantage of the internationally and nationally renowned documentary makers in town for the main AIDC event to present an inspiring programme for the next generation of documentary makers.

Director of the Media Resource Centre, Imogen Selley, said ‘It’s incredible the breadth of appeal of documentaries. By partnering to establish an affordable fringe event, the Media Resource Centre and AIDC are taking the Documentary Conference beyond the established screen industry and making some of the world’s experts in the field of documentary available to anyone with an interest in this growing field. It’s especially a great opportunity for young people to get involved. As South Australia’s centre for independent screen development, the Media Resource Centre is pleased to be pioneering this partnership with the Documentary Conference.’

The AIDC Fringe will be an intensive day of practical and inspirational information on the creative aspects of documentary presented by leading documentary makers and aimed at the emerging documentary practitioner as well as anyone who has ever wanted to know what it takes to create documentary.

AIDC conference director Joost den Hartog said, ‘AIDC has a responsibility when it comes to industry development. Nurturing a future generation of filmmakers and attracting them towards the documentary film genre by giving emerging talents access to the tremendous knowledge base that is available in Adelaide because of the conference. This fits totally within the goals expressed in AIDC’s mission statement’.

The inaugural AIDC Fringe 2007 will be held at the Mercury Cinema on Tuesday 27 February 2007 from 10am-5pm.

Entry for the whole day of AIDC Fringe will be $70/$60 for Media Resource Centre and Screen Development Australia members. Single session passes are $30/$25. An AIDC Fringe Gold Pass is also available for $100/ $120. The Gold Pass entitles holders entry to the AIDC endnote speech and closing party, as well as AIDC Fringe 2007.

The Media Resource Centre will be presenting a weekend workshop for beginners to intermediates on the essentials of documentary making on Saturday and Sunday 10-11 March 2007. For more information call the MRC on 8410 0979 or see www.mrc.org.au.
