Capote and Murderball Take Home Top Honors at 15th Annual Gotham Awards

IFP has announced its winners in the six competitive categories at the 15th Annual Gotham Awards which has been broadcast on NYC TV (Channel 25) on December 6 at 9 pm EST.

Jeff Daniels, Laura Linney, Jesse Eisenberg, Owen Kline, William Baldwin, Anna Paquin Awarded Best Ensemble Cast for The Squid and the Whale. Amy Adams and Bennett Miller Awarded "Breakthroughs". I Am A Sex Addict Awarded Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You.

The winners are as follows:

BEST FEATURE

CAPOTE directed by Bennett Miller, written by Dan Futterman, produced by Caroline Baron, William Vince and Michael Ohoven. (Released in the US by Sony Pictures Classics). Jury: Carter Burwell, Mira Nair, Edward R. Pressman and Fisher Stevens.


BEST DOCUMENTARY

MURDERBALL directed by Henry-Alex Rubin and Dana Adam Shapiro / produced by Jeffrey Mandel and Dana Adam Shapiro. (Released in the US by THINKFilm). Jury: Mary Harron, Ellen Kuras, Michel Negroponte and Rosie Perez.


BREAKTHROUGH DIRECTOR

Bennett Miller for CAPOTE (Released in the US by Sony Pictures Classics). Jury: Enrique Chediak, Matthew Modine, Lydia Dean Pilcher, and George C. Wolfe


BREAKTHROUGH ACTOR

Amy Adams as "Ashley" in JUNEBUG (Released in the US by Sony Pictures Classics). Jury: L.M. Kit Carson, Morgan J. Freeman, Amanda Mackey-Johnson and Lili Taylor


BEST ENSEMBLE CAST

Jeff Daniels, Laura Linney, Jesse Eisenberg, Owen Kline, William Baldwin and Anna Paquin for their performances in THE SQUID AND THE WHALE (Released in the US by Samuel Goldwyn Films/Sony Pictures Releasing International). Jury: Lee Daniels, Judy Greer, Jesse L. Martin and Christine Vachon


"BEST FILM NOT PLAYING AT A THEATER NEAR YOU"

I AM A SEX ADDICT directed by Caveh Zahedi. Jury: Winner was determined by the editors of Filmmaker Magazine.

A total of nine honors were handed out: two tributes (to Matt Dillon and to Jim Jarmusch) in addition to the Celebrate New York award to MAD HOT BALLROOM and the six competitive awards listed above. Kyra Sedgwick hosted the awards ceremony. NYC TV (Channel 25) will broadcast the show (and stream it live on the web at nyc.gov/tv) on December 6th, 8th and 10th from 9-11pm EST.

Serving as Co-Chairs of the awards ceremony were Sheila Nevins of HBO and Bob Yari of the Yari Film Group. Presenting sponsors of the 15th Annual Gotham Awards are Focus Features, The New York Times, NYC TV and Variety.
