Cartoons Galore!

The competition programme of the 12th International Festival of Animated Film Stuttgart is complete

Long days and long nights at the Bosch Areal: over the last two weeks three different selection committees have got together to select the films for the four competition series from the promising number of film entries submitted to the Festival.

The people responsible for the programme, managing director Gabriele Röthemeyer and curator Ulrich Wegenast, were assisted by experts such as Stefan Eling (animated filmmaker and cartoonist from Cologne – ”Killing Heinz"), Wiltrud Baier (documentary and animated filmmaker from Stuttgart –”Schotter wie Heu"), Claudius Brodmann (head of the animation and post-production studio m.a.r.k. 13), Frank Klasen (series editor at SuperRTL), Benjamin Manns (editor of "Sendung mit der Maus” and animated film at SWR) and Andreas Hykade (animated filmmaker and lecturer at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy). A total of 1,200 films were submitted, which is an increase of around 20% in comparison with the last festival in 2002.

This remarkable offer of films will be reflected in the Festival’s four competition sections. The event will be taking place from 1st to 6th April 2004 at the classic venues such as the Alte Reithalle, the Bosch Areal, the Treffpunkt Rotebühlplatz and the Atelier am Bollwerk. The Filmhaus Stuttgart is a new addition to this list.
