Europe's First Machinima Festival at DeMontfort University in Leicester

The Machinima Festival Europe 07 runs from 13th to the 14th October and is taking place at DeMontfort University in Leicester. The festival, which is supported by the Academy of Machinima and Arts Sciences (AMAS) and s^ponsored by Moviestorm, attracts both professional and enthusiast creators and is likely to encourage more people to try machinima for themselves.
As machinima keeps evolving, its practice is spreading beyond the gaming community. Subgenres like in-game dance movies and political machinima are fast gaining recognition. With the guidance of some of the most experienced machinima makers in the world, festival participants will find out what machinima can do, see a lot of great machinima, and learn how to create their own machinima.

The festival runs from 13th to the 14th October and is taking place at DeMontfort University in Leicester. Professor Andrew Hugill, Director of De Montfort University’s Institute of Creative Technologies said: “Machinima is an exciting and important emerging phenomenon which is capturing the imagination of individuals and communities including games players, film makers as well as anyone interested in exploring new ways of communicating a narrative. By holding Europe’s first machinima festival, we aim to bring these communities together and open up the exciting possibilities of machinima to a wider audience.”

Moviestorm will have a stand for the duration of the festival, as well running Moviestorm workshops. Matt Kelland, Moviestorm Founder and Evangelist will be taking part in the “tools for machinima” program at 12pm on Saturday October 13th. Ann Garner, Moviestorm Director of Marketing said: “Machinima is a young person’s medium, still considered underground, but shows signs that it is about to break into the mainstream. We are very excited to be sponsoring this event, and would encourage anyone interested in machinima or Moviestorm to come along to the festival”.

Moviestorm has been nominated for best commercial/game award, for its promotional move “Did That Break Your Concentration?”. The award categories will be judged by a distinguished panel including: award-winning author and Reader in Creative Writing and New Media at DMU, Kate Pullinger; Martyn Ware, artist and record producer, who was a founding member of the pop group The Human League and who also formed Heaven 17; and, Hugh Hancock, Artistic Director of Strange Company, and co-inventor of the word "Machinima", and co-author of the recently-published Machinima for Dummies. The winner of each category will be announced at the official Awards Ceremony taking place on Saturday 13th October at 7.00pm
