Expresión en Corto launches MexiCannes Summer Residence Program

For the third consecutive year the Expresión en Corto International Film Festival will celebrate its partnership with the Cannes Film Festival’s Cinéfondation LA RÉSIDENCE, which has resulted in the MexiCannes Summer Residence Program. This year Expresión en Corto will welcome the next generation of MexiCannes during a breakfast on the Plage de Palmes where the 12 laureates from this year’s 19th and 20th sessions of the Cinéfondation LA RÉSIDENCE will be invited along with special guests.
Cinéfondation LA RÉSIDENCE, which each year is held in Paris through the Cannes Film Festival, selects a dozen of the best young filmmakers in the world, offering them a platform designed to propel their careers. The program includes master classes, workshops and meetings with public and private organizations to help obtain financing for their film projects.
With this same mission in mind, Expresión en Corto offers the 12 laureate filmmakers an opportunity to present their projects to international producers, distributors and film financing institutions during its International Pitching Market in Guanajuato, as well as to participate in workshops and private Master’s Classes with acclaimed national and international luminaries of film invited to the festival. Past Master’s Classes have been imparted by: Spike Lee, Deepa Mehta, Spike Jonze, Shyam Benegal and Peter Greenaway.
Additionally, Expresión en Corto invites the Cinéfondation Residence laureates participating in MexiCannes, as well as all Mexican and international filmmakers selected for competition in Expresión en Corto 2010, to participate in their new INCUBATOR project. INCUBATOR focuses on nurturing and developing the next generation of Mexican producers and international filmmakers and is a direct response to the existing lack of support and funds for independent projects in the early stages of development and pre-production. INCUBATOR aims to fill in the gap that exists between projects that are in development to the time they are ready to be formally pitched within a festival film market or during a professional business meeting. Participants will attend conferences imparted by established industry professionals who will touch upon topics such as packaging, financing, production, distribution, sales, press, promotion and television as well as take part in one-on-one advising sessions, during which they will meet personally with industry delegates and receive advice on their own specific feature film projects.
The Expresión en Corto International Film Festival will take place from July 23rd to August 1st, 2010, in San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato Capital, Guanajuato, Mexico.
