Filmfestivals.com, the online source for global film festival news and resources, will serialize “A Festival Wife,” a first novel by former Variety reporter Rex Weiner, in its weekly newsletter beginning Wednesday, March 25, 2009. The novel, which will also be published as an e-book from M21 Editions, will be presented on the company’s newly launched Fest21 blog platform (www.fest21.com), with a new chapter appearing each week through the 2009 Cannes Film Festival (May 13 – 24).
“When we received Rex Weiner’s texts and suggestion to publish his festival novel we reacted in a fraction of a second with a big Yes we Want. We know our audience is focused on the circuit and will enjoy discovering a fiction they know all too much. The idea of unveiling the book in a web 2.0 way felt much appropriate. We decided we will reproduce a chapter every week culminating with a reveal at next San Lorenzo festival…oops I meant Cannes” said Bruno Chatelin
Malo Girod de l’Ain his partner at filmfestivals.com and fest21.com added “we have always loved staying upfront in the publishing business, especially when it means going online and publishing in e book format”
“Film festivals and film markets are full of romance and intrigue, with lots of fascinating people, and my years covering them as a reporter were the inspiration for my story,” said Rex Weiner. “I’m very pleased that M21’s Bruno Chatelin and Malo Girod de l’Ain, the experts in the film festival world, are publishing my novel in a way that combines the Dickensian serial tradition with today’s innovative technology.”
“A Festival Wife” is a romantic thriller that takes place at the fictional San Lorenzo Film Festival and in the classic tradition of the roman a clef follows a cast of fictional characters moving amidst real-life movers and shakers in the film industry.
Nesta Morgan who illustrates the book commented "When I first read of the project A Festival Wife I was intrigued by the ephemerality which lay in the title and how I would illustratively bring to life a fictional festival set in the land of latino lego (or leggere) ..... I decided to take my part in what to mind was a very visual expression of life with the stars, be it that envisioned in their films or at this place in San Lorenzo, this is different from ordinary life and drawn from the real film festival circuit.”
