Filmfest Hamburg opens its TV section with Die Nachrichten

Filmfest Hamburg opens with DIE NACHRICHTEN
Geschonneck’s thrilling portrait of the media landscape after German
Reunification

With the adaptation of the best-selling novel DIE NACHRICHTEN, directed by Alexander Osang with a top-notch cast, the Filmfest Hamburg will open its TV section on September 23, 2005.

Director Matti Geschonneck: “DIE NACHRICHTEN – a small panorama of our thin-skinned society, in which a human fate is hanging by a thread just because a rumour or an anonymous denunciation can mean one’s fall from grace.”
The content: The Mid-Nineties. Jan Landers (Jan Josef Liefers) has made it: He
is newscaster in Hamburg. Born and raised in East Berlin, he has made a career after German Reunification – from weather forecaster of a regional broadcasting station to newscaster of a major station. But his GDR past catches up with him unexpectedly. – A female editor of the magazine “Spiegel” (Dagmar Manzel as Doris Theyssen) and a provincial journalist (Uwe Kockisch as Thomas Raschke) compete for possible files, vague gossip and the best story. Rumour has it that Landers worked for the Stasi, the East German secret service. As a precaution the station takes him off the air. Jan Landers cannot remember anything. He wants clarity. Thus he sets off so that the whole truth is brought to light.

At the premiere on September 23, 2005 at 19:00 hrs at the UFA-Palast Grindel Matti Geschonneck, Alexander Osang, Jan Josef Liefers, Uwe Kockisch, Anna Schudt and Herbert Feuerstein will be present.
The ZDF broadcasts DIE NACHRICHTEN, produced by Jutta Lieck-Klenke for Network Movie Hamburg with subsidy from Filmfoerderung Hamburg on October 3, 2005 at 20:15 hrs.
The 13th Filmfest Hamburg takes place from September 22 to 29, 2005 in the
cinemas ‘Metropolis,’ ‘CinemaxX Dammtor,’ ‘Abaton,’ ‘Ufa-Palast Grindel’ and ‘3001.’
