Filmfest Hamburg turns green

This year's focus of the 'Filmfest Hamburg 2010' is 'Three Colours Green'. It involves a short film competition for film students from all over Germany as well as a film section on the environment.
The municipal authority for urban planning and environment helped developing the concept, which revolves around Hamburg being European Green Capital 2011. The title 'European Green Capital' is awarded to a European city for outstanding efforts and achievements in preserving the environment as well as progressive future plans for sustainable urban life.

Anja Hajduk, Environment Senator believes: 'Movies can provoke thoughts, inspire and help people to comprehend complex matters such as environmental protection. This year’s Filmfest is a great precursor to next year when Hamburg will be European Green Capital. We are very excited about the outcome of the film competition and are looking forward to creative input and an external point of view on Hamburg as European Green Capital 2011.”

The short film competition is funded by Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg Marketing GmbH. Studio Hamburg offers the contestants to use their editing suites and provides a mentor from “Haus der jungen Produzenten” for each team.

The competition takes place under the auspices of Hamburg's director Hermine Huntgeburth. All students of film academies, media academies and of media and film faculties may enter the contest. Entry forms are available on the Filmfest Hamburg web site at www.filmfest-hamburg.de by 7. June 2010.

Ten 'dream teams' consisting of three persons each will be selected and invited to come to the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg during the festival. Their task is to work out a creative perspective on the different facets and faces of the city and its challenges and approaches of solution in dealing with the environment. Total running time must not exceed 5 minutes. Contestants are free to choose their genre

A jury will select the three best contestants. First prize will be 10.000 Euros. The second and third receive valuable prizes in kind. The 18th Hamburg Filmfest takes place in the Abaton cinema, CinemaxX Dammtor, Passage Kino, Metropolis cinema, 3001 cinema and the B-Movie from the 30th of September till the 9th of October 2010.
