Freshwater Lands wins Big Apple Latin Films Award

"Tierras de Agua Dulce" (Freshwater Lands), by the Venezuelan director Ana Cristina Henríquez won the prize for Best Ecological Documentary in the Big Apple Latin Films Awards, which awards prizes to films from Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Big Apple Latin Films Awards took place Thursday September 16th.
These prizes were given by the New York Latin Art Club to film productions from Latin America and the Caribbean produced in the United States or in countries from the continent.
Short fiction films and documentaries from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Chile, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Uruguay, Venezuela, and The United States took part in the competition.
Films competed for the “Big Apple” trophy in the following categories: Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Film, Best Photography, Best Sound, Best Music, Best Scenery, Best Opera Prima, Best Documentary, Best Ecological Documentary, and Audience Award.
A jury made up of three cinematography experts was responsible for the selection of the films. The jury evaluated the productions based upon their originality, artistic, technical, and interpretative quality.
The official ceremony took place on September 16th, 2009 in Saint Mark’s Church, located on 10th Street and 2nd Avenue in Manhattan.
Hector Quintana was in charge of directing the event. He has organized five Latin American film festivals that take place in New York City.
Latin film lovers applauded this great event, which seeks to acknowledge the artistic quality of Latin American productions.
This new award won by the filmmaker Ana Cristina Henríquez for "Tierras de Agua Dulce" is not the first. She has received other international prizes such as, BEST DOCUMENTARY in the category of Environment and Sustainable Development in the IV Hispano American Independent Documentary Video and SPECIAL MENTION in the oficial section of the Rodos International Films and Visual Arts Festival. This Venezuelan film was transmitted in prime time by the Cultural Channel of Television Española (Spanish Television).
