German Films' six-person advisory board was newly elected

RE-ELECTION OF THE ADVISORY BOARD AND ADOPTION OF THE 2013 BUDGET AT GERMAN FILMS
Shareholders' meeting of German Films (23 November, 2012)

German Films' six-person advisory board was newly elected at the company's shareholders' meeting today. Moreover, the meeting adopted German Films' budget for 2013. Additional funds were approved for events in Brazil and Chinas as well as support for marketing German films at international festivals.

Martin Moszkowicz was confirmed as the chairman of the advisory board. The executive board member responsible for film & television at Constantin Film and a member of the Association of German Film Producers has served as German Films' advisory board chairman since March 2011.

Kirsten Niehuus, managing director of Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, was newly elected to the advisory board. Prof. Dr. Klaus Schaefer, managing director FilmFernsehFonds Bayern, stepped down after his term came to an end on the board. FilmFernsehFonds Bayern, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and Film- & Medienstiftung Nordrhein-Westfalen are shareholders of German Films on behalf of the regional film funds and take turns sitting on the advisory board for a period of two years at a time.

Peter Dinges, board member of FFA, Antonio Exacoustos as a representative of the Association of German Film Exporters, Ulrike Schauz, head of the film department at the Federal Commissioner for Culture and Media (BKM), and Sylke Gottlebe, managing director of AG Kurzfilm, were re-elected.

Additional funds were approved in German Films' 2013 budget for an event in China in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut to present German films there. Further local activities are also planned in Brazil with the Goethe-Institut in 2013. The German focus at the São Paulo International Film Festival and the PANORAMA ALEMÃO, a tour of German films through the cinemas of another four Brazilian cities, were a very good start this year for stepping up activities in this growing cinema market. The budget for supporting marketing at international festivals was increased for the coming year so that an even more intensified funding of German cinema's presence can be guaranteed at these events.

Another important goal for 2013 will be to further intensify the support of young German directors and producers. German Films wants in particular to strengthen the positive trend of many interesting debut films from Germany with these additional measures. The press work for German cinema abroad is to be further expanded internationally and in Germany. An English newsletter is being planned from 2013, aiming to inform international media particularly about relevant news and developments in the German film landscape.

As far as German Films' publications are concerned, the budget of German Films Quarterly (GFQ) can be considerably improved for 2013. The distribution of the quarterly magazine with news and background information on new German productions, filmmakers and the German film landscape was switched to digital so that more readers can be reached. A small print run continues to be printed for GFQ's distribution at international film festivals.

In addition to the shareholders' meeting, the German Films' advisory council also convened in Munich today. German Films launched this committee in 2011 to enable a lively exchange about the company's work with filmmakers and other representatives of the film industry, who are not serving in the institution's corporate law organs. The directors Caroline Link and Angelina Maccarone were among those present at this meeting to give feedback and discuss proposals for the future
