German-French Film Meeting in Paris start next week

9th GERMAN-FRENCH FILM MEETING IN PARIS (23 & 24 November 2011)

German Films and uniFrance films are collaborating with their partners for the ninth time to organise the German-French Film Meeting which is being held in Paris this year.
The organisers will be expecting around 300 participants from Germany and France to come together on 23 and 24 November 2011 to discuss burning issues of the day for the ninth year running. On the first day at the event in the Intercontinental Hotel Paris Le Grand, the participants will have an opportunity to reflect on 10 years of the Minitraité with members of the Minitraité committee. Following on from this, the delegates will have a chance in the co-production market to speak with interested producers about their new projects and win them as partners. The co-production market is an excellent opportunity to target specific partners as the results from last year show.
On the evening of the first day, the Film Meeting's participants will be able to attend the opening event of the Festival of German Films in the Cinéma L'Arlequin. Now in its 16th year, the film event is organised by German Films and will be opened this November with WESTWIND by Robert Thalheim in the presence of the director and his lead actress Friederike Becht. A total of 11 new films will be presented as part of the film festival. A retrospective of the director Andres Veiel and an all-nighter with DREILEBEN in the presence of the director Christian Petzold will be presented in collaboration with the Goethe Institut. In addition, WINTER DAUGHTER (WINTERTOCHTER) by Johannes Schmid will be shown in a schools screening as part of a cooperation with Vision Kino this year. The complete program of the Festival of German Films can be found at www.festivalcineallemand.com.
Digitalisation and new media will be on the agenda the next morning. Hosts Helmut Hartung (Promedia) and Lionel Bertinet (CNC) will have the top-notch speakers offering the listeners much food for thought and reflection. The subject of digitisation and new distribution channels is very topical, and digitisation makes high demands on theatrical distribution, in particular, with not all of the questions being near fully answered.
In the afternoon, the subject of co-production will be discussed once more, and a final session will see the participants having a chance to learn more about transmedial storytelling. The panel will be organised in cooperation with the Atelier Network.
The two-day event will close with an embarras de richesses: the delegates can attend the screening of SUMMER WINDOW (FENSTER ZUM SOMMER) by Hendrik Handloegten in the presence of the director and lead actresses Nina Hoss and Fritzi Haberlandt as part of the film festival or plump for the cocktail at Quai d’Orsay.
You can request the current program for the German-French Film Meeting by sending an e-mail to filmtreffen@german-films.de.
The Film Meeting is being organised this year with support from CNC and FFA, ARTE, Commission du Film d‘Île-de-France, Rhône-Alpes Cinéma, the French Embassy, Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein, FFF Bayern, MFG Baden-Württemberg, Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and MDM.
