Head in the Clouds premieres in Montreal

"Head in the Clouds", the highly-anticipated
romantic war drama from writer-director John Duigan starring Oscar
winner Charlize Theron, Penélope Cruz and Stuart Townsend, will have its
world premiere at the 28th Montréal World Film Festival, which runs from
August 26 through September 6.

"Head in the Clouds" is one of six new feature films added to the 245
titles that the MWFF announced at its news conference August 10. Among
the new films is the Italian "The Life I Wish For", by Giuseppe
Piccioni, one of Italy's top directors, which will screen in the World
Competition category. Piccioni's "Fuori Dal Mondo" won the Special Jury
Grand Prize at the 1999 MWFF and took five of the country's prestigious
David di Donatello awards, including best film.

"Criminal", a hip caper film marking the directorial debut of Gregory
Jacobs, will screen in the Cinema of the Americas – U.S.A. section.
Starring John C. Reilly, Diego Luna and Maggie Gyllenhall, the film is
produced by Jacobs, George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh.

The Israel-Canada-Germany co-production "Metallic Blues", a bittersweet
comedy directed by Danny Verete from his own script, won awards for best
screenplay and best actor (Moshe Ivgy) at this year's Jerusalem Film
Festival. Well known Montréal-based producer Suzanne Girard is
co-producer of the film, which will screen in the Cinema of Europe
section.

Secrets unravel and long-treasured friendships are threatened in "Ice
Men", by Thom Best, a well known Canadian cinematographer who is making
his debut as a feature director. The film will show in the Cinema of the
Americas – Panorama Canada section.

Noted Argentinian director Fernando Solanas, who has been using the
medium of film to observe the political and social realities of his
native country for over 30 years, examines the effects of globalization
and dictatorship in "Memoria Del Saqueo – A Social Genocide", which will
screen in the Cinema of the Americas – Latin America section. Solanas
was a member of the international jury at the 1999 MWFF.
