iMemories: new festival showcasing home movies to DVD

Transferring home movies to DVD went mainstream with the airing of "Soprano Home Movies," Episode 78 of Season 6, and just in time, iMemories' upcoming Home Movie Film Festival April 13th, 14th and 15th will give families a chance to screen their own old-format home movies.
In probably one of the first times such a topic played a central role in a television episode, character Janice gives Tony, the mob boss, a birthday gift of his old childhood Super 8 home movies that have been transferred to DVD.

"Consumer-generated content is so prevalent now that it is being referenced on the most popular TV shows," said Mark Rukavina, founder & CEO of iMemories. "And it just goes to show that everyone, no matter who they are or where they are from, becomes sentimental over watching motion picture footage of their childhood memories."

Most TV viewers are familiar with online services that let families upload and share video that is already digital. But Super 8 film, which was developed in the 1960s, along with other older formats such as 8mm and 16mm, represents the consumer film formats that families shot from the 1930s through the 1980s, and is rarely watched and shared. These images are degrading with each passing moment and unless they are converted to digital format, will be lost forever.

Screening old family film formats is the theme of iMemories Home Movie Film Festival this weekend, April 13-15th. The event is free and open to the public. Attendees are invited to bring in their old home movie reels and have them inspected, cleaned and screened in private viewing booths. Complementary beverages and gourmet appetizers will be provided. The event runs from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. each day. For more information, visit http://www.imemories.com or call 480-767-2510.
