International Filmfest Emden-Norderney Awards

Grand gala award ceremony at the 22nd International Filmfest Emden-Norderney
The very first awardee of the Emder Schauspielpreis was Martina Gedeck
British productions are celebrating great successes at the gala event of the International Film Festival Emden-Norderney at the sold-out Neues Theater in Emden. After the words of welcome presented by Dr. Josef Lange, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry for Science and Culture and by Alwin Brinkmann, Lord Mayor of Emden, 600 guests eagerly awaited the announcement of the winners of the six established awards as well as of the newly introduced award, Emder Schauspielpreis. This year’s festival awards have a total purse of € 53,500 Euro. They are almost exclusively audience awards.
Bernhard Wicki Award
Nominations for the audience award with a total purse of € 15,000 included 18 films from Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Finland, Italy and Switzerland.

AOK-Health Insurance - Movie-Award
This Movie-Award with a total purse of 5,000 Euro is presented for the first time and goes to the director of one film of the competition, which creatively addresses the topic of health.
The award went to:

DGB Trade Union Award
Six films competed for the audience award for films especially committed to social issues. It is endowed with 5,000 Euros. The productions nominated address currently socially relevant topics in many different ways. Among these are the right to education, repression at the workplace and ethnic and religious conflicts.
The award went to:

East Frisian Short Film Award
Eleven productions from the Netherlands, Norway, Germany and Switzerland were in the competition for the coveted "Ottifant Camera" award. The winner of the short film competition receives the Ottifant Camera designed by comedian Otto Walkes as well as € 2,500 in prize money. The second and third films receive € 1,000 Euro and € 500, respectively.

NDR Young Directors Award
The NDR Young Directors Award is for the director of a German first or second feature film. Five films generated hope for a top ranking by the audience. The award carries a purse of € 5,000.

EZetera Film Award
A youth jury selects the winner of the "EZetera" award which comprises €2,500 in prize money and is donated by Emder Zeitung for the best film from the perspective of youths and young adults.

Emder Schauspielpreis
The first laureate of this new award is Martina Gedeck. Thus, one of the leading German actresses was honoured who is widely appreciated by the audience for her multi-faceted acting skills and her inspiring charisma. “Sensitive and sensual, shy and lascivious, proud and down-to-earth, Martina Gedeck is wonderfully versatile in her roles, she excels in drama and comedy, she depicts the upheavals in human lives so empathically as well as vividly. She is a wanderer between worlds”, says Dr. Ulrich Spies, head of the Grimme-Award department at the Grimme Institute in his eulogy. In future, the Emder Schauspielpreis is to be awarded annually to outstanding German speaking actresses and actors.
Screenplay Award
From 75 screenplays handed in anonymously, a jury which was appointed in close cooperation with the Grimme Institute determined the winner of the Screenplay Award on Friday, 17th June for the seventh time. The prize money is earmarked for the development of new projects.

Florian Eichinger’s screenplay “NORDSTRAND“received an honourable mention.
Special award: A Writer's Workplace by the Sea
The possibly most unusual award of a German film festival was presented this year for the first time at the festival opening on the island of Norderney: A short-term grant for project development which comprises a two-week stay in the loft of the small, exclusive and comfortable hotel Seesteg.
The award went to:
