Jim Sheridan & Morgan Freeman honored at Turks and Caicos

JIM SHERIDAN, MORGAN FREEMAN TO RECEIVE AWARDS AT DEBUT CARIBBEAN FILM FESTIVAL
November 13-20, 2004.

Academy Award-nominated director Jim Sheridan (IN AMERICA) and actor Morgan Freeman (THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION) are among the luminaries who will receive Career Achievement Awards at the 1st Annual Turks & Caicos International Film Festival from November 13-20, 2004, event organizers have announced. Sheridan and Freeman have three Oscar nominations apiece.

Also scheduled to attend and receive a Career Achievement Award is Oscar-nominated screenwriter Richard Price (COLOR OF MONEY). Rounding out the honorees at the festival is renowned film critic Rex Reed (THE NEW YORK OBSERVER). “We are pleased and privileged to have such icons in the film industry helping us inaugurate our festival,” said Geoffrey Williams, director of the event.

The Turks & Caicos festival will include dozens of feature, documentary, short, animated, student, foreign, and Caribbean/ Bahamian films. Movies will be shown at several indoor venues and at one open-air theater on Providenciales. Jury and audience awards will be presented at the festival’s closing-night gala. Also announced will be the winner of the festival’s screenwriting competition. More information about the festival may be obtained at www.turksandcaicosfilmfestival.com.

TURKS & CAICOS: Located 575 miles southeast of Miami and reachable by non-stop flights from seven North American cities and London, the Turks & Caicos Islands have been described as “best undiscovered Caribbean destination” and home to the “world’s best beach” by Caribbean Travel & Life and Conde Nast Traveler.
