Jokara Micheaux Film Festival kicks in

the Second Annual Jokara-Micheaux Film Festival takes place in Early and Miller Counties. A host of celebrities and film industry experts are expected to join educators, students, movie watchers, festival lovers and the local community in “Celebrating Film Southern Style”. It is an event to attend, to support, to enjoy and to be inspired.

The Jokara-Micheaux Film Festival provides a setting for film business industry professionals and non-professionals to come together and celebrate the art of film making. The festival seeks to support film as a medium that can make a positive impact on society and provide valuable cultural insights to all viewers, young and old alike.

It is a venue that will spotlight Southwest Georgia – with its rich history, down home culture, picturesque towns, and well-kept rural settings – as the perfect setting for the business of filmmaking, thus promoting long term economic growth in the area.

About the Festival: Founded by Ralph Wilcox, director of the Southwest Georgia Film Commission and veteran actor, and local Colquitt, GA community leaders Joy Jinks and Karen Kimbrel, Jokara-Micheaux Film Festival takes its name from its founders, as well as Oscar Micheaux, the first African American to write, direct and produce a feature length film in 1919. This is the place to be on Labor Day weekend 2007. Whether you are a novice filmmaker, producer, director, writer, editor, actor, graphic artist, below-the-line or above-the-line production support, this festival is a great way to meet peers and showcase your work. And if you are an educator, student, movie watcher, television viewer, or just a festival lover, you will have a great time because of all the events that we have planned.
