Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes

Jules Verne Festival's Extraordinaire at The Edison

Alfred Hitchcock's 49th film was The Birds, an adaptation of a novella by Daphne du Maurier, which was inspired by an actual news story about a mysterious infestation of birds in Santa Cruz, California. Tippi Hedren was the blonde heroine, playing opposite Rod Taylor. The film debuted at the Cannes Film Festival with Alfred Hitchcock and Tippi Hedren in attendance. It was nominated for an Academy Award in the category of Special Effects and Tippi Hedren received the Golden Globe Award for New Star Of The Year - Actress in 1964. The film ranked number one of the top ten foreign films selected by the Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards and honored Hitchcock with the Best Director Award for the film.

The Jules Verne Festival and the world-class lounge, The Edison proudly announce the festival's new screening series entitled Extraordinaire, which will pay tribute to iconic films, honor legendary people, recognize outstanding achievements and celebrate significant milestones. The Edison will host Extraordinaire once a month to create living history--providing guests an insight into past eras of invention & discovery; blending science, adventure, imagination and innovation. The first film in the series is Alfred Hitchcock's, The Birds this Sunday, September 14th at 6:00pm. A special presentation to actress and conservationist, Tippi Hedren, as well as a special tribute to the original cast will take place prior to the film screening. Also a special screening of Noel Marshall's Roar, with a special call for action for the Shambala Preserve, will take place. Ben Lyons and Ben Mankiewicz, new co-hosts of At The Movies, will join Extraordinaire as hosts for the series.

Future Extraordinaire screenings include 2001: A Space Odyssey, Planet of the Apes (40th Anniversary) and Some Like It Hot (50th Anniversary) amongst other notables. For Tickets please visit: www.edisondowntown.com
