The KahBang Film Festival is proud to announce the lineup for its 2010 Films in Competition. Categories of competition include “First Take”, “Gen-Next”, “Perspectives”, “Short Cuts”, and “Maine on Main”. The KahBang Film Festival runs August 6th-14th in Bangor, Maine. A complete list of film showings can be found at www.kahbang.com/film.

Notable films include the Sundance-debuted New Low, and One Too Many Mornings, both of which are the product of first time filmmakers and will be shown as a part of the “Gen-Next” category. The “Perspectives” category is proud to announce the screening of Wi Ai Ni Mommy, winner of the Sterling Award for Best U.S. Feature at the AFI-Discovery Channel Silverdocs Documentary Festival. Other notable films include Audience of One, Virtual JFK, Toxic Soup, and Cleanflix. The KahBang Film Festival will continue to announce confirmed Films in Competition in the coming weeks.

The KahBang Film Festival is the premier film event of the umbrella event The KahBang Festival: Music, Art, Film, to be held August 6th-14th, 2010 in Bangor, Maine. The nine-day event will transform Bangor into an arts and entertainment hotspot with constant musical performances, film screenings, artist panels, and art gallery exhibitions and venues throughout the city. Local area bars and restaurants will host KahBang @ Night events, as an influx of 50 bands and performers enter the city for the festival week. The KahBang Festival culminates with The KahBang Music Festival on August 13th-14th featuring headliners B.o.B, OK Go, Biz Markie, and Free Energy.

FILMS BY CATEGORY

FIRST TAKE: Category includes premiere screenings of the latest films from some of the most talented and visionary filmmakers in cinema.
Audience of One: Ten years ago, a Pastor from the Voice of Pentecost Church in San Francisco received a 'prophetic whisper,' a directive from God to make movies for the Lord. Using donations from his congregation, he slowly transformed his church into a fully functioning movie studio.
Virtual JFK: The film investigates one of the most debated "what if" scenarios in the history of U.S. foreign policy: What would President John F. Kennedy have done in Vietnam if he had not been assassinated in 1963, and had he been re-elected in 1964?

GEN-NEXT: Category includes a selection of 4 feature films with outstanding direction by first time filmmakers representing the future of independent cinema.
New Low: A neurotic twenty-something struggles to figure out which girl he really belongs with as he analyzes the best and worst ones he's ever known.
Channel News: Two estranged siblings find themselves living together once again in their parents’ home where they discover home movies they made as kids. After watching their old movie spoofs, talk shows, and sketches, they are inspired to make a variety show for the Internet.
One Too Many Mornings: A coming of age comedy about two guys who are way too old to be coming of age.
Leading Ladies: An overbearing ballroom stage mother and her two daughters must redefine their roles in life and on the dance floor as each learns to "Let Love Lead."

PERSPECTIVES: Category includes feature-length documentaries that explore current topics and cultural trends from across the globe.
Cleanflix: Dozens of Utah DVD retailers attracted unwanted attention from Hollywood heavyweights when – in the name of conservative family values – they begin sanitizing films of sex, nudity, profanity, and violence.
Toxic Soup: It’s the politics of pollution as giant corporations manipulate the system to delay environmental reform, endangering the lives of people all over the world for increased profits. “Toxic Soup” shares the stories of everyday folks fighting to keep their blood, water and air safe from pollution.
Wo Ai Ni Mommy: In 2007 Donna and Jeff Sadowsky of Long Island, New York submitted their dossier to adopt eight-year old Fang Sui Yong from Guangzhou, China. This day will change Sui Yong’s life, forever. Language, habits, food, everything she knows will never be the same. Her new life in America is filled with happiness and confusion. Witness her struggle to survive in this new world, as she transforms into a lively, outspoken American.
